TOWING
IIf you need to tow stuff around daily, either for work or have a particular hobby, you need a heavy-duty truck. The 2021 Dodge Ram 2500 and the 2021 Ford F-250 are two options worth considering, both starting at an affordable $35,000 MSRP, so let’s see how they compare.
When talking powertrains, the Ford F-250 has three engine options. A standard 6.2L V8 with 385 hp, 430 lb*ft of torque, and a maximum of 15,800 lbs towing capacity. The other option is either a 7.3L V8 with 430 hp, 475 lb*ft of torque, a maximum towing capacity of 19,500 lbs, or a diesel 6.7L V8 with 475 hp, 1050 lb*ft of torque with a maximum towing capacity of 22,800. Linked to either a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 10-speed automatic transmission, either a rear-wheel drive or a four-wheel-drive configuration. The 2021 Dodge Ram 2500 comes with two engines. A 6.4L HEMI V8 with 410 hp, 429 lb*ft of torque, a maximum towing capacity of 17,540 lbs, or a 6.4 Cummins I6, with 370 hp, 850 lb*ft of torque, and a maximum towing capacity of 19,680 lbs. Offering either an 8-speed automatic for the HEMI or a heavy-duty 6-speed automatic for the diesel, finishing it off with a rear-wheel-drive/four-wheel-drive configuration.
On the interior, you get plenty of options. All the possible cab styles are available, with either a 6’4” box or 8’ box if you are looking for a crew cab. There are three infotainment systems available, all of them equipped with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity standard. Apart from that, you can get everything that you might expect. More powerful alternators if you need it, safety options, towing packages, comfort options, and more.
Owners are delighted with their purchase because towing capacity isn’t everything. They praise how comfortable it is for a heavy-duty truck, using it for road trips. The diesel is known for its reliability, and it comes with a 100,000-mile warranty.
As such, if you want a heavy-duty truck that’s also livable, the 2021 Dodge Ram 2500 is the better choice due to the comfort and options that it has available, on top of the reliability of the Cummins, something that the 2021 Ford F-250 lacks.
